PostSubject: Removing the banking system, hopefully with the best of intentions.    Tue Apr 19, 2016 2:00 pm

So Strid and I were talking for a bit about how effortlessly easy it is to make characters and how people essentially never have to level, as you had to before; I'm inclined to agree with him. It's a problem. We think it'd be advantageous to fully remove the exp banking system(from DR. K.) I said that perhaps there should be some minimal return like 30% but he feels there should be none at all.. honestly it would force people to stay on the server, invest time in leveling and ultimately create more interaction on the server(From pking, and subsequently pvp). Right now people can simply recycle their characters or easily abuse the crypt(Which is totally my fault), it makes me sad but it's pretty true, and it's glaringly obvious. Ronin and Lomy both pointed out to me that the crypt, and specifically the negative plane just make it far too easy to farm gold, and exp, then bank for new characters. Since the rate of exp gain at latter levels is expedited especially when players hit level 40.. it makes it a of vicious cycle where any player can just farm at level 40, bank the extra exp and never have to level again. I honestly thought this was a "cool" idea at first but now I'm starting to see it as an issue. I'm gunna try to lower all the exp gain from mobs from the crypt, as well as gold.

The whole reason I made the crypt was so casters could have a place to level, a place farm exp with "relative ease", since leveling a mage isn't exactly favorable with the normal route. This goes for all kinds of casters really, clerics, druids, wizards, sorcerers. (Bards not so much)

I think once the exp bank is removed it'll solve the problem more or less.. and the ONLY reason I say we should do this because it's -very- easy to level a character to 40 on badlands. Unlike on DeX where it could be a pain in the ass depending on what you were leveling. Since XP doubling it's gone down from like 6-8 hours to level a character, to 3-4, perhaps even less depending on how devotedly you grind. It's really not that arduous like it is on some other servers.

The reason we need to do both things, (nerf crypt, and remove banking system) is because even w.o the crypt.. people can just recycle characters endlessly, this is what I did for a while and it took a lot of effort away from playing the game as it should be played. Without the interactive portion afforded by pve, leveling, pking.. the stuff we really want like pvp is vastly diminished. I haven't had this view up until now, but I think it'd pan out well once we try it. And hey, if it doesn't work out and people completely lack the impetus to level up a character, then we can revert things back to the way they were, ie the way they are now.

And by removing the banking system, we could also make the return small enough so that any form of late level farming yields diminishing returns, to the point where it's automatically more efficacious to simply level a character to the normal way(Starting from 1, to 40). This also makes it so people don't feel like old or outdated characters are completely useless in their vault. At least they'll get something from them. Maybe 10-20% return.

I know there's a lot of redundancy in this post but I just wanted to make my point crystal clear.

There definitely should be some drawbacks to banking a character.

It is a bad idea. For those of us that don't have a million characters, it helps. Currently I don't even have time to play, but at some point when I do, I don't wanna waste time leveling a new character with all these new changes

yah It's a pretty knee jerk reaction that strid and I came up with, I posted this but forgot that uh, no one plays here/levels on a constant basis sooo, it's totally out of place. I think we should revert it back, for now.

Going back and forth like this is an easy way to piss people off however. For those who DID level legitimately when now they wouldn't have to...

If we do decide to go back to the previous point I think I'll have the server award all the players who have made a new character within the past month with an additional free 40(from the free 40 system) and a gold tier item generated from the weapon proficiency of the first character they log in.

The bank is active again, be forewarned however that leveling when not using the bank gives a massively increased chance for better items to drop than with the bank.
