So I've been thinking of making an arena gametype, which will be a split off section of the server that gives all gold, all items, and all XP off the bat and allows characters to fight in all sorts of arena type gameplays(CTF, TDM, LoL-type).

The AI necessary to be competent team-mates is already ready and there should be few issues there.

Each match won rewards a randomly generated item, which as we know CAN be better then the standard items obtainable by normal methods in the server.

I think it would be reeeaallly cool to have something like BoW, where there are different maps and players vote on those maps. But you get to use the characters you already have in your vault with all their items/exp etc. I'm not too keen on the idea of splitting the server, that'll just create a schism between badlands normal vault and the arena one. Since leveling is already fairly easy I don't think it'll be a problem for people to make new characters and have to worry about a lot of grinding for the arena. Rewards for winning match would be nice tho to help newcomers along.

I also think we should stay away from things like CTF.. as I've seen a bunch of servers try to implement that and it usually just creates cancerous build metas where people make "flag" cappers, then the game stagnates at a standstill. Unless the flag gives -really- huge penalties to mitigate these builds I think it'll be a problem.

TDM, awesome
Team capture points/Single capture point like in tf2 would be cool, adds in the idea of objectives without digressing from the main goal of pvp orientedness.
maybe some others I haven't thought of/heard of.

The reason for the split off would be to allow an "immediate action" game option. A good deal many players just can't bother acquiring various items or even traveling to certain cities due to what I can only say is an immense desire to -just go kill something with no complications-.

So the reason the arena gametype would be split off is to allow the option of using any/all items instantly with no delay as well as leveling straight to 40 so as to not make things -even more easy- in the normal gametype. It also allows us the option to use the LoL-gametype. Whereby you and all players start at level 1 and level up through PvP/killing minions through the match(as the XP they had was given for free anyway..).

A pre-level 40 PvP is fairly rare and I think it'd be an interesting twist to the norm.

I CAN however make the arena items be flagged as arena only and thus delete them automatically the moment you leave the arena nexus. However the whole all gold/XP thing is a little trickier to manage when changing to and from the arena as I'd need to track the numbers throughout the entire time.

Side note = I suppose conversely I can just make nothing cost anything inside the arena heh, it has a side effect of allowing any item to be used by any level of character, but I suppose that's irelevant there. Just tracking XP is actually pretty easy.
