Hello - I can't seem to connect

Hi my name is Vlad. I used to play on the Heart of Winter server a long time ago and would like to play BadLands - it sounds really good. The problem is after I create a character and try joining the server, the game crashes instantly after finishing a brief loading screen. I have tried making a new character, and I can connect to other servers, just not yours for some reason. Are there any downloads I need to be aware of, or any game configurations that may allow me to connect? I am running windows 8.1. Thanks

The server doesn't presently use any haks or serious overrides. What does the loading screen say when the crash happens? "Loading Area: AUTHORIZATION"? What version of nwn do you use? Do you have nwmain.exe running in admin mode? What language version is your game?

I am using version 1.69 of neverwinter nights in English. The game seems to load the area, and for a brief second I can see the user interface of the game, although the rest of the screen is black, before it crashes saying 'NWN has stopped working'. I believe the first time I try to connect to the server with a new character the loading screen does say 'AUTHORIZATION', but it does not seem to say it the next time I try to connect using the same character. I also have all the .exe files in the game folder running in admin mode, including nwnmain.exe. I torrented my copy of the game, with the sole purpose that my original game's disk is damaged so I could not install the game or the expansions (I have my own CD keys).

Try running in compatibility mode Windows XP Service Pack 2, I find that to be most stable on my computer.

Yeah I've tried all the compatibility modes with no luck unfortunately, but the thing is I can run neverwinter nights in singleplayer and other multiplayer servers all fine, its just this server that I crash on when I try to connect

The AUTHORIZATION area uses a different tileset then most servers utilize(steam sewers). It's possible that particular area is not supported by the files in your nwn folder. In addition it's possible you're simply being booted and your client crashes if a boot happens. A lot of ifs there. Just FYI, but there is a free version of the game using the original nwn files available in the Helpful downloads section, literally it's digitized discs. It may function more accurately then the present things.

I installed Neverwinter nights using the image files you provided and it worked! The game no longer crashes at the AUTHORIZATION screen, thanks alot.
Edit: I also noticed the game runs much smoother with this installation... before I had random choppiness that I could seem to fix and it was really annoying but now the game runs great
